In The Fray begin publishing in 2001. Starting in 2022, we are publishing some of our content under a Creative Commons Attribution/No Derivatives license (CC BY-ND). This means you are welcome to republish for free any of our articles published under these terms, so long as you adhere to the guidelines below. (Please note that unless the article contains the Creative Commons logo as above, it falls within our conventional policy, where republication is allowed only on a case-by-case basis.) You can find a list of our Creative Commons-licensed content here. Let us know if you have any questions about the following requirements for republishing:
- You cannot edit our content. The only exceptions are changes to wording to match your publication’s editorial style or reflect relative times and locations. Any further changes need to be approved by the author, who should be reached through any contact information provided in their bio at the end of their article. If no contact information is provided, you can contact the editors at submissions@inthefray.org.
- You must credit both the authors of the piece and In The Fray, preferably at the top of the article.
- You must include a link to our home page or the original article published on In The Fray. We prefer that you include a version of our logo with the link.
- You cannot sell our content separately, and you cannot systematically republish our articles (such as framing the content of our site).
- You should be aware that images published with our articles may or may not be published with a Creative Commons license. If the content was published in 2022 or later and the accompanying image does not fall under our Creative Commons terms, we will note its source in the caption (e.g. “via Flickr”), and you should follow those links to verify the image’s copyright status. You are free to publish our content without those images or substitute your own images.
- After republishing our content, drop us a quick email at submissions@inthefray.org with the link to the republished piece so that we know where it appeared.
- You do not need a copyright release form to republish our content so long as you are following these guidelines.
Note to our contributors: We will contact you whenever we hear that a piece of yours was republished. If you wish to apply Creative Commons licensing to any piece of yours that we published conventionally, please let us know at submissions@inthefray.org.
Publishing conventionally copyrighted content: If you wish to republish content that is not marked as Creative Commons-licensed, please email submissions@inthefray.org with the details of your request, including the name of the magazine, newspaper, newsletter, blog, or other publication (print or online) where the republished content would appear.
