North Carolina-based photographer Lissa Gotwals confirmed her passion for photography while at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine. This summer, she completed the Certificate in Documentary Studies program at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. Now working as an independent documentary and portrait photographer, she strives to make images that can build connections between people, cultures, and communities. She believes that by witnessing the life, love, work, faith, struggle, adventure, hope, and humanity of others we can discover a deeper understanding of them, as well as of ourselves.
