Sharon Franck, twenty-five, was born in Israel, but moved to
New Jersey at the age of four. She received her bachelor's degree in political science
with a focus on international relations at Kean University, and is now working
as a teacher's assistant and coaching a Model United Nations team at Woodrow
Wilson Middle School in Edison, New Jersey. She is also pursuing a master's
degree in special education at Kean.
Franck is using her position as a teacher's aide to make
children aware of violence against women. Under her direction, Model
United Nations students made purple ribbons to show the courage of women who
have come forward to end the cycle of abuse brought against them. The
project marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against
Women.
Franck was one of the women featured in "Survivors of sexual
assault" (ITF, September 2001). She currently lives with
her mother, sister, and two dogs, and would like to thank her family
as well as her friends and boyfriend for their support in her healing
process.
