Safiya Bandele met ibn Kenyatta in 1969 and coordinated the defense committee for his two trials. Today, she is director of the Women's Center at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. She is a community activist, an advocate for women's issues, and a frequent commentator on the criminal justice system.
