Mawi Asgedom fled his homelands of Eritrea and
Ethiopia at the age of three. For three years, he lived with his
family in a Sudanese refugee camp. He immigrated to the United States
at age seven. Growing up, Asgedom overcame cultural and financial
challenges and eventually earned a full-tuition scholarship to Harvard
University. He graduated as one of eight class marshals and delivered
a commencement address at his graduation in 1999. Since college,
Asgedom has pursued his passion: learning as much as possible about
the human experience and sharing his learning with others. He is
a popular motivational speaker and the author of the book Of
Beetles and Angels (Megadee Books, 2001), a memoir of his
family's struggles as refugees in Africa and America.
