PRIORITIES, PRIORITIES

"Jews are stubborn. Tell me, why did they persecute Jesus unless he knew something they didn't want to accept? They had his blood on their hands." So says Charlie Ward to a reporter in a recent issue of The New York Times Magazine. With righteous anger, Madison Square Garden fans booed the New York Knicks guard at the start of a game last month against Toronto.

But the crowd changed its tune when, with less than ten minutes left, Ward hit his first field goal of the game and brought the Knicks to a 72-68 lead. Fans cheered and screamed, and all was forgotten. The would-be anti-Semite went on to receive a standing ovation when he scored a 3-pointer, bringing the score to 81-75--and yet another one when he sank two free throws in the last twenty seconds.

Ward later issued a formal apology for the comments.

UNIONS ARE COOL

A survey done for the AFL-CIO found that 51 percent of 462 potential union members definitely or probably would vote against a union if the election were held tomorrow

But 53 percent of workers under thirty-five said they would vote for a union.

Why do young workers tend to favor unions? "Unions are cool," says Andy Levin, an AFL-CIO organizing official.
