Jal Mehta is a doctoral candidate in sociology and social policy at Harvard University, where he studies how policy problems get framed and defined. He has co-authored a forthcoming book on rampage school violence and is working on his dissertation on the changing politics of education reform. In an effort to put his training to use for social justice, he has formed a think tank, New Vision, with other students to push original policy proposals intended to provide the foundation all Americans need to pursue their dreams. Jal graduated from Harvard College in 1999, but he owes his curiosity and idealism to much earlier influences, particularly his parents and his fourteen years at Park School.
