Being broke is making me rich PDF Print Email

Twenty-three dollars to my name, driving a car on the verge of a breakdown to a house for which I pray I will have enough rent for September.

The ironic thing about the fact that I am just scraping by financially is that I am getting by.  For as little as I have, I am so rich.  I have a vehicle to drive, I am so rich.  I have shelter in a home with my own bedroom, I am so rich.  I have a fridge that has food to eat in it, I am so rich.  I have water that is safe to drink, I am so rich.

Something that has taken me years to be able to say is that I am blessed with exactly what I need.  And I know sometimes that I want more, sometimes I think satisfaction is found in things.  I would call that human nature.  I almost convince myself that I need these "things"; Laura Mercier makeup, Free People dresses, Coach purses, plasma televisions, Harley Davidson motorcycles, all the latest, greatest "necessities."  But I know this: if I am not content with what I have, I will never be content with what I think I need to have.  That's a profound statement, and I like to say it out loud.  If I am not content with what I have, I will never be content with what I think I need to have.

Life is short, a moment in true time.  Spending life with the almighty dollar as my deliverance is the biggest mistake I could ever plan on regretting.  So I won't be consumed with greed.  I simply won't.  Today I reflect on what I do have, which is everything I need.  Today I am able to say I am truly rich.

Good for you. So many people get down on themselves and their financial situation, especially the way the economy is right now. Its hard when you have to give up things to make ends meet but you are so right...as long as you are meeting your basic necessities and working hard and enjoying your freetime and living life as a genuine good person inside, you will always be able to look back and be proud of what you've accomplished and the way you held yourself during those hard times. And there are so many free things in life that you can enjoy just in nature and enjoying what the earth has to offer us. So again, good for you. Keep living strong, and be proud of the person you are and will continue to become...because every experience helps you grow and learn. And it sounds like you are learning a lot.

By the way, you've encouraged me to go outside and go hiking instead of workout inside the stuffy gym. Its the simple pleasures in life...right? We are so rich, even with our freedoms.

Glad your content with junk lady. Glad your content with not having enough money to go out and have a good time.
Food,Shelter,Air, is the basic necessity's of life. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be better off.

Me personally I am in the same situation as you. And I am not "Content" as a matter of fact, I f**king hate not having any money, not being able to do what I truly want to do.
Mind you I plan on improving my situation through hard work, and effort, and Intelligent.

I may or may not be very wealthy in the future, but I will be better off than I am now, and much happier.

99% of my problems come from lack of money, I wish I could just look that problem in the face and go.. "I'm just going to be content with you, let me just make a room for you and you can make yourself at home"

I am just not that brave. smilies/cheesy.gif

In a speech, President Bush said, "As president, I am responsible for the decision to go into Iraq." Yeah, well, I don't think he has to worry about other people trying to take credit for that one. That's like the captain of the Titanic saying "hitting the iceberg, that was my idea. —Jay Leno, American comedian
