Manager of New Media
Advancement Project seeks a Manager of New Media to join the
organization's communications team. As a key member of this team, reporting to
the Director of Communications, the Manager of New Media is a strategic thinker
who can lead Advancement Project's efforts in the Web 2.0 realm to increase
commitment to our mission of achieving a just democracy. The Manager of New
Media is firmly entrenched in the new media space and responsible for creating
and implementing comprehensive and effective online strategies to inform and
activate a variety of target audiences.
The successful candidate will manage, maintain and develop new initiatives for
the website; produce the organization's newsletters and alerts, create graphics
and other assets for web and video productions; and manage social networks and
blogs including Facebook, MySpace, You Tube, and Twitter etc.
Our
ideal candidate is an activist, organizer, and political technologist who can
lead our online operation for social change. You should be a compelling and
succinct writer, work with content management systems, possess a keen eye for
detail, multi-task under multiple deadlines, and enjoy a good degree of comfort
with technology and online activism.
Major Responsibilities
The Manager of New Media's
responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Developing and implementing
strategies to build relationships with and mobilize target
audiences.
- Translating and
repackaging traditional content for the new media/Web 2.0 space.
- Responding to and
disseminating information to key online and social media constituencies
in a timely, effective manner.
- Managing and coordinating the
organization's website and new media assets.
- Exploring new and promising
ways to communicate effectively and influence change via the online
environment.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Strong knowledge of, and
fluency in new media/Web 2.0 technology trends, tools, techniques,
and what works.
- Proven track record in the
implementation of strategic online communications campaigns and
online media outreach, preferably in an advocacy or campaign-related setting.
- Ongoing interest and
engagement with evolving technologies.
- The ability to prioritize and
multi-task in a creative, results-driven environment.
- High degree of energy and
enthusiasm.
- Deep interest in applying the
use of new technologies to create social change.
- Understand video delivery
formats and compression techniques from HD to flash.

Write and structure validated HTML and CSS; and be able to use both MAC and PC.
Additional Qualifications:
Applicants should also be proficient
with Final Cut Studio, Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop, AfterEffects
and other related software; and be comfortable with LAMP web servers as well as
installing and trouble-shooting application like Wordpress and other
components.
Language coding skills including MySQL, PHP, Action Script, and related skills
in music composition, photography, cinematography and animation are a plus.
Must be detail-oriented, a self-starter and a team player with at least three
years of related experience. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
