Welcome to InTheFray! Please complete the tasks listed below promptly,
so we can ensure that you are properly connected to the rest of the ITF
staff (don't worry — this process should be quick and painless). Bloggers and columnists only need to complete steps one and two. All other personnel should complete every step. Make
sure to follow all the steps below in italics. OPTIONAL. We encourage you to become a fan of our Facebook page and join our Facebook network so that you can be in touch with other ITF folks (for instructions on joining our Facebook network, click here). We also would appreciate if you would friend our MySpace profile and add yourself to our MySpace group, and join our friend/fan networks on Digg, del.icio.us, Technorati, and YouTube, where we post links relevant to our readers. Finally, feel free to subscribe to our ITF calendar of events at inthefray.org/calendar, where we list ITF-sponsored events.
If you are a blogger or columnist on our site, you are now done with the preliminary steps. If you are an editor or a member of the board or business staff, please continue with the second part of this orientation. (We still need to set up your ITF email, add your contact information to the staff directory, and add you to the appropriate mailing lists, which these next steps will cover.)
3. ITF EMAIL. As a new ITF staff member, you have the option of having your own ITF email address. Please read our memo regarding ITF email carefully;
it describes everything you need to know (you must be logged in to view this page). In order to get an ITF email
address, please contact webmaster-at-inthefray-dot-org. Email us the information at bizrecruit-at-inthefray-dot-org (for business staff) or recruiting-at-inthefray-dot-org (for all other personnel), and we''ll post it on the contact information page. Once your information is posted, you can edit it at any time yourself by visiting the page and clicking on the "Edit" icon to the right of the headline (you must be logged in first). 5. CALENDARS. We have calendars set up on Google Calendar so that board and staff members can stay informed of upcoming events and deadlines. The board schedule can be viewed at http://inthefray.org/boardsked; the business schedule at http://inthefray.org/bizsked; and the editorial schedule at http://inthefray.org/sked. We recommend that you set up an account at Google Calendar (visit http://calendar.google.com; you can use the same username and password that you do for Google Mail) so that you can subscribe to one or more of these ITF calendars. Once you're subscribed, ITF-related events will automatically appear in your personal calendar. To subscribe, set up your account at calendar.google.com and then use the links to the ITF calendars above. Click on the link in the lower right-hand corner of the page to subscribe yourself to this calendar. Now, when you go to calendar.google.com, the ITF calendar will appear in the My Calendars listing in the left-hand column of your Google Calendar. You can click on the checkbox to toggle the ITF calendar on and off. (Note: Your supervisor may have already subscribed you to the calendar, in which case it should appear under My Calendars whenever you log into your Google Calendar account. In that case, you don't need to subscribe, but you may need to check the calendar checkbox so that it's visible.) Once you're subscribed, you should change the notification settings so that you receive an email alerting you of upcoming events and deadlines. To do this, log into calendar.google.com and click on the Settings link at the very top of the page. Click on the Calendars tab at top. You should the ITF calendar listed below. Click on the Notifications link to the right of it. In the Event reminders section, click on Add a reminder. You can set the system to notify you by email or by a pop-up message within minutes, hours, or days of the event. You can even set the system to notify you multiple times for the same event. To do so, just click on Add a reminder. When you're finished, click on the Save button at the bottom to save your changes.
6. LISTSERVS. We have various online mailing lists, or listservs, that we use for announcements pertinent to ITF board/staff. Please review the options below and subscribe to those that pertain to you.
(We recommend you subscribe using your ITF email address.) You can
post to any of the listservs by sending a message to the email
addresses listed below. This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it - This listserv is for the entire ITF editorial staff. Everyone joining the editorial staff should join this listserv. Subscribe to this list.
