Victor Tan Chen cofounded INTHEFRAY Magazine in April 2001. With Princeton sociologist Katherine S. Newman, he is the co-author of The Missing Class: Portraits of the Near Poor in America, which includes a foreword by Senator John Edwards. The Missing Class explores an invisible population — the near poor — who are far more numerous than those living below the poverty line. His writing has also appeared in Newsday, The Chronicle of Higher Education, the Minority Law Journal, The Miami Herald, the Philadelphia Daily News, The Oregonian, Let's Go: Chile, and the book Chutes and Ladders: Navigating the Low-Wage Labor Market. The son of Taiwanese immigrant parents, Chen was born in New York, and grew up in the suburbs of South Jersey. He lives on Long Island with his wife Emi, his son Elijah, and two fat cats.
